It is a good recipe, wish I could figure out what I did wrong to create the gasy creosote smell.
The only thing that I could think of is I added UN-Lit charcoal on top of lit charcoal that was running a bit to low, even though the pit temp was fine.
Hmmm not sure on that. I normally boil down to a bed of Kingsford Mesquite flavor with periodic spikes of wood or pee can shells if I got some. Add raw charcoal when the heat starts to drop and never had a problemo with it. Course I fan the door a few times if the smoke turns skunky looking/smelling. Surely you wasnt using the instant light stuff now was ya? Was the fire getting plenty of air? Just trying to cover all the bases here.
