Senior Cook
Made this today - tasted wonderful.
1 lb brown lentils
1/4 lb pearl Barley
2 large onions diced.
1/2 lb carrots minced
1 tbs mustard seed
1 tbs dried thyme
1 tbs ground bay leaf
1 tbs fresh ground black pepper
1/4 cup Soy sauce
Salt to taste
1 lb smoked chicken legs.
2 qt homemade chicken stock (I save all bones from cooked chicken - make stock)
1 lb frozen Kale
Saute onions and carrots till tender.
Add spices during saute.
Add lentils/barley and broth - brint to boil - reduce to simmer.
Cook 30 min - add frozen kale - bring back to boil - reduce to simmer
Cook 25 min more and taste - adjust seasoning if necessary.
After this soup/stew is cooked I will usually separately saute turnips,
Zucchini and carrots and add them to the cooked soup.
