1 head red cabbage(about 4 cups)
1/2 c butter
1/2 c chopped onions
a little less than half a cup vinegar
2 tbs brown sugar
salt
pepper
1 c water
2 3/4 c sliced tart apples
1/2 tsp ginger(optional)
shred the cabbage,melt the butter in a heavy sauce pan.Add onions and saute until lightly browned.Add the cabbage and remaining ingredients and mix lightly.Cover and simmer for about 1 hour.
