Princess, I remember when I first went to work at Genetics Institute, I was in the filing vault and filing some returns from field trials for a weight loss drug. Genetic Institute was one of the most prestigious companies in the country. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Genetics_Institute,_Inc., I noticed so many of the trial sheets from the participating doctors were reporting Adverse Events for heart damage. A lot of them even reporting deaths. Yet pressure was put on the FDA to approve the drug.

Skip ahead a year or two after it hit the market. The drug was Phen Fen. The lawsuits were so many and the awards were so large that the only way they could be paid is if another company bought them out. In came Wyeth. The fun went out of working and in came pride in your work. Be to work on time, no one or two hour liquid lunches, etc.

Unfortunately Wikipedia doesn't tell you the whole truth. To work for Genetics was probably one of the best references you could have on your resume. A lot of good scientific work came out of that company. I always listed GI and Wyeth on mine. GI was where the work on solving the DNA Map quest started. The two scientists left and continued their work elsewhere. If they hadn't left, we may never have found out what the DNA Map was.

Working at GI was fun. The atmosphere was light. When the call was placed with Kelly Services, they asked for someone who could file using several different systems. That is when I was sent there. The day I walking into the files vault, I could see why the company was in trouble. Patient reports from the field were strewn all over the place. Piles on them just sitting on the floor. I was told the FDA was coming for an inspection of their files, do what I could do. After a week, I told my supervisor there was no way I could bring order from the chaos with out some help. The brought in four more people from Kelly. All of a sudden I became a supervisor. FDA arrived a week later. At least the patients files were off the floor. Three years later they returned and my department was the only one that not one fault or problem could be found. That was my cue to tell Kelly to get me another assignment. The filing system I set up in three years became part of the SOP to be followed by every member or employee.

If only someone had been reading those reports on the weight loss drug, Genetics Institute would still be in existence.

I had a coupon for Mrs. T. Mozzarella, tomato and basil. It sounded like something I would like along with The Pirate. Spike was helping me and the frozen foods are on his side. He couldn't find them.

Now I know why! The coupon will go in the trash. And I will wait a few months before I look for them again.

Thank you for posting these notices. There have been a few times when I would hear of a recall in the news. Sure enough, I had bought the item. One was the cantaloupe melons. Fortunately for me, I hadn't opened up. It was still in the fridge getting cold.

I was talking to one of the residents and the subject of recalls came up. There were about six of us sitting together chatting. This one resident said she never pays attention to those notices when she hears them. "It just a way to convince us we should buy that product." We all stop talking and just looked at her. The subject was changed.
