i'm about to prepare these potatoes and wonder if you have further tips?

It’s been my experience that Chef John doesn’t need any help.

The basic recipe reminds me of the British method of roasting potatoes nestled in the pan with the Sunday roast.

I agree with Aunt Bea. I find that Chef John's recipes work fine as written. I have used a number of his recipes and have learned to just make them as written or with modifications that he has suggested.
 
Another vote to stick with the recipe.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

there is always things to elaborate and give further tips on.

expecting one person to give all the details on things is not realistic.

Well, we were just discussing the problems that can occur when slavishly following a recipe. That's over in the most loathed cooking terminology thread.
