The skin of a cascabel is the worst. You absolutely have to separate the flesh from the skin and toss the skin.

Agreed. I can rarely find cascabels. I check every trip to one the stores that sell chiles and get a bag or two whenever they have them.
 
I've looked at Penzey's site but I guess I'm too cheap to pay for shipping groceries. I do buy green coffee beans and dry corn online only because they just aren't available locally.

I made your beans last night. Pureed the chiles and added a poblano. Very good.
