@Texmex I agree, stay active and do as much as you can so you can keep your level of health and activities, absolutely yes.
On the other hand, everyone needs a hand once in a while. The vehicle breaks down and we need a ride, or we get sick and we need a grocery delivery. Even being very active and self sufficient will have hiccups.
In our area, people use nextdoor.com, where you register according to your address. You are put in contact with neighbors. I've seen posts of people needing weekly grocery deliveries, or weekly grocery trips with someone else driving, and help with getting to doctor's appointments. A person posts what they need and LOTS of neighbors offer help. This same application has neighborhood announcements, things for sale, and free things, community events, emergency information and recommendations for doctors, hair dressers, home repairs, car repairs. If Dallas has it there is a lot of information available if you want to look.
