"Stake" is not the same word as "steak". There are words in Hebrew that mean "stake", not "steak". A stake is a narrow, pointy stick, usually made of wood or metal.
How do you think "steak" is pronounced in English? Steek? Steak is pronounced exactly the same way as stake.
@taxlady - when I said "Steak or stake or stayke, it is the same word and same pronunciation." I deliberately said it was the same word as I was not sure whether the OP would understand what the word homophone is. I was using those words as an example of the way the Hebrew word is transliterated and pronounced in English.
That is why I posted the word "steak" [meaning meat] in Hebrew. סטייק
I have dual nationality as I was born in England over 81 years ago and my parents were English. So English is my mother-tongue. However, I have lived in Israel for nearly 40 years and am fluent in Hebrew.
Don't worry about it Seeing - we have lots of words that are confusing - LOL and even more so when said with an accent from another language!
Makes for interesting conversation, LOL.
