Starting Your Own Home Food Business?

I'm wondering how many people here are interested in starting their own home food business?

I actually want to start my own online cake or cupcake shop one day, but it seems like so much work with all the kitchen licensing and health issues.

If there was a website that could help you set up and maintain your online shop, would you use it? (like a marketplace for food kind of like Etsy.com for arts and crafts) And how much would you pay for it? (This is one of the ideas we have for a course I'm taking and I want to see how viable it is )

I'd hire a lawyer. There are so many issues beyond licensing and health codes.

I'm not aware of any state in the US where you can run a food business out of your home -- legally.

As well, as our society has become increasingly litigious, the need for comprehensive (and very expensive) liability insurance can be prohibitive. But a lawsuit could wipe out everything you own.

Consult an attorney before you do more than dream.
