D'oh! Just ordered another knife...

You guys may remember that I just picked up a 300mm sujihiki a week or so ago...

Well, I just found out that ChefKnivesToGo.com is running a sale on all their Tojiro DP knives. Apparently Mark found out I still have a few dollars in my checking account, and he can't abide that!

At any rate I've been eyeballin' the Tojiro DP 150mm Gokujo Boning knife for awhile- well, today it's $20 off the normal price of $99.95, so I had to go for it! This Gokujo is one of the very few Japanese-made equivalents of a Western boning knife, a staple of my kit. And the Tojiro is a much better deal than the Shun or Kasumi versions I've found.

This will be the 4th Tojiro for my work knife case! Even though I've got more expensive ones it's hard to beat them for money. About the only ones I'll still need is the bread knife when it's finally out and maybe the Honesuki.

ChefKnivesToGo.com is the best site in the biz, in my probably biased opinion! No affiliation, just a very satisfied long term customer. The selection of Japanese knives is probably the best of any single store that I'm aware of anywhere, internet or B&M. And if you want a Tojiro, now is the time! Mark has already said he doesn't know how long the sale will run so if you're interested in nabbing one, do it now!

Yikes! I looked at my history and this is my 10th order from CKtG! And out of all of them, only one was under the $60 mark that gets free shipping! I better get a Christmas card- I think I'm putting his future kids thru college!

Well, I don't know. Although if I get another one I'll have to take something out of my case. It only has slots for ten blades so I'll have to expand the "bullpen" at home. Right now I own four really good 240mm gyutos, and there's at least two more I plan to get. If I do I may have to reluctantly retire the Tojiro DP. Or maybe switch out the Akifusa and the Tojiro in a time share arrangement.

Next year I'd really like to pick up a 240mm Konosuke HD, a Moritaka 240mm Wa-Kiritsuke or a 240mm Devin Thomas ITK in AEB-L. If I pick any of them (or all of them) then I'll almost certainly have to sell one that I already have.

When I'm not at work cooking, I'm home either: 1) cooking, 2) sharpening knives or 3) drooling over knives and stones. Oh, and um...occasionally doing my homework for class. The last two nights I was off of work so I made a 2 gallon batch of cream of baked potato soup and a large crockpot batch of beef stroganoff with homemade egg noodles.

This one's worth ogling, GB! Mark only put the Tojiros on sale because a competitor of his did so without informing Tojiro! So this little "price war" could end if the company decides to turn the hose on those two! But until it happens- BLAMMO! Tojo knives, 20% off!
