CakePoet, I don't think anyone is saying these two mega-stars shouldn't retire. I think the points are that a) it is sad that Neil Diamond has to do it because of a very horrid illness and b) ironic that Sir Elton is embarking on a 300 stop grueling "goodbye tour". Both of these two have paid their dues many times over and deserve a chance to relax.
I think both have said they will still write music and be involved in other ways. Elton wants to spend more time with his family and Neil, well, needs to relax and look after himself.
