Now to those of you who don't know me, that might seem like I am a hypochondriac. Those of you who DO know me know I am just plain down on my luck health-wise.
But I have decided that a little humour goes a long way. And I had such a strange day I have to share it in a humourous way.
About a year ago I was experiencing a broad range of symptoms that my GP thought were related to MS. I was on the wait list for an MRI (still don't have an appointment) and sent to a neurologist who said I needed new glasses and my ears cleaned out (seriously). I was sent to an ENT (ear, nose, throat specialist) and the appointment was made about 6 months ago - before my Dad went in the hospital.
Well, the appointment was today. He put me in a chair that looked like it came out of little shop of horrors and looked in my ears. He then pushed a button and the chair went up into a horizontal position. He yanked my neck to the side while pushing me backwards in a laying position and said "look straight ahead and don't close your eyes." He did this to the other side as well. Both times he asked me if it made me dizzy. Yes, it did. So he does it a second time, but now I am to shut my eyes and he says he will check me in a few minutes. DH said it was more like 7. He then yanks my neck to the other side puts it in the position he wants and says to close my eyes and out he goes. When he comes back he makes me roll over almost on my stomach which my arthritic body can't do without sitting up (specially in this chair) and again leaves. When he comes back he tells me I have Benign Positional Vertigo and the last three things he did were the "cure". Gee, compared to that I think I would rather be dizzy!
There are little crystals in your inner ear and some of mine have been knocked loose and every time they move around I get vertigo. Apparently these torture positions help to put them back.
Here's the kicker - for 48 hours I can't lay down. I have to keep my back and neck at least at a 45 degree angle. So, it is the Lazy-Boy for me tonight! Hey, maybe I can stay up all night watching the Food Network .
But you know how when you were good at the doctor or dentist as a kid you got a treat? Well, DH took me into the cellphone store and we had enough bonus points to get me a new text phone complete with touch screen and flip out keyboard!
