Never thought of this before today, but what is the purpose of baking a cake in a bundt pan...other than that it looks different and that the slices look different when cut?

Same here. Maybe a light dusting of powder sugar, though, especially on the chocolate ones.It's much easier to make a bundt cake than a layer cake. Plus, I like my bundt cakes plain (no frosting).
Many bundt cake recipes can be adapted to sub non-fat or low fat yogurt for the oil/fat. That makes a BIG difference in the fat content. and it turns out so moist and tender.
