I agree with most of what is listed above. I'll add to the list (in no particular order):
Apocolypse Now (many think Brando to be the best movie actor ever)
East of Eden (just think what great movies we would have had he lived)
Papillon (best "prison" movie ever, IMO)
Some Came Running (probably Frank's best effort)
On Golden Pond (great generational conflicts)
