Cotechino with lentils.

Lentils for new year traditionally simbolise "money", hoping the new year brings prosperity and wealth as well as good health and peace for us all.

I don't like black-eyed peas. So, luck, money, health, whatever it means, I'm having lamb chops.
The idea is to eat poor on NYD and the rest of the year will be prosperous. I bought a ham for .78 cents per pound and both the limas and the black-eyed peas were inexpensive (Lima beans aren't traditional but I had some on hand and 1/2 that amount of black-eyed peas). Cornbread and greens are inexpensive as well...lots of people do the pork loins and saurkraut which isn't costly either.

I'm quite sure your lamb chops aren't going to spiral you into poverty. I am not that superstitious, it's just a tradition. I guess lobster on NYD is unlucky but I've eaten it on NYD with no repercussions, lol.
