I use my 20 yr. old Krups meat slicer to cut very thin slices of roast beef for Au Jus. I don't have yards of counter or cabinet space for a large stainless steel one. For me, the Krups line of compact slicers are fine. They are compact, so what if they're made of plastic, nothings broken after all this time. After 20 years the blade is still razor sharp. I don't need and didn't want to pay for a deli quality stainless steel meat slicer. I'm not sure how readily available Krups compact meat slicers are now, but eBay usually has some being auctioned.
