Need your recommendations.

Am bringing a "gooey butter cake" to a party next week.

In the unusual event that I actually do bake something, I generally do not use a mix.

But the butter cake calls for yellow boxed cake mix.

Here's the question: WHAT BRAND IS BEST? I made one last year, and, though pretty good tasting, had a sort of chemical taste to it -- from artificial flavoring I presume. Want to avoid that this time.

Tnx,

Jenny

We have found Duncan Hines to more moist and fluffs up more than other brands.

Jenny, I think unfortunately you're gonna get that 'chemical' taste from any boxed mix, unless maybe you can find a 'health food' one - or maybe ordering one from the KA peeps. Could you try adding some x-tra vanilla as a camoflouge, maybe?

Another wonderful idea, marmalady! My vote would be Duncan Hines, as well, jenny.
