Help!

Last year I was invited to a New Year's Eve party where the requirement was to have a toast. The host pulled names from a hat periodically, rang a bell, and whoever's name was drawn had to propose a toast. I didn't take it seriously, but by the time my name was drawn all I could come up with was okole maluna (the most obscure one I could come up with). This year I'd like to arrive better prepared. Anyone know some good ones?

Claire, I just did a quick google search for 'clever toasts' and there are a number of websites devoted to witty/clever toasts for every occasion.

It depends on your audience.
If it was your cooking friends, you could use someone's signature line. (there are a lot of great ones out there on DC)

Something like: "Raise your drinks with this quote from Carl Sagan--If you want to make an apple pie from scratch, you must first create the universe."

You said the host rings a bell, so...
"Ask not for whom the bell tolls. It tolls for thee."
