Hello!

I am having guests over this afternoon and have all the ingredients ready to make a lemon slice for them.

I have only just realised however, that although i have a lemon for a teaspoon of lemon rind, i don't have a grater.

Is there any technique or improvisational tool i can use to get the rind?

Thank you so much for any help and suggestions!

Gabby

If you have a paring knife, carefully remove the rind part of the skin. Leave the white part, the pith, behind. It's very bitter. Once you have all the rind off, switch to a chef's knife and chop it as finely as you possibly can.

a veggie peeler works just fine too, making sure not to scrape too hard (like verablue reminded you about the pith)
Then, just finely mince the pieces. best of luck!

This is for next time you're at the kitchen gadget store.
It's what I primarily use for zesting - it's super easy
and quite fun as well :chef:

And of course those rasp graters are absolutely perfect for taking just the yellow part of the lemon off - I don't think I could live without mine - from lemons to parmesan they work for nearly anything and clean up so easily! I'm told they work well with chocolate as well!

Unfortunatley i didn't have a peeler, especially one like that.
I'm a student with a very minamilistic kitchen :P

To my suprise tho, finely cutting up the rind with a kitchen knife wasn't overly time consuming.

My lemon slice is made and it tastes amazing ^_^
