A weld on my lift for my truck broke the other day. The lift is rated for 350lbs and I weigh 230lbs, what causes a weld to break? What do I need to tell the company in order to get the cost of getting it re-welded refunded to me. Luckily I found a local guy that came to my house and only charged $50, which I thought was more than reasonable for an onsite Saturday call, so I gave him $60. The lift had a 1 year warranty, but I believe it is for the mechanical portion, I need to read through it. But shouldn't the company be liable for this? Had this happened when I was elevated I would have fallen. A weld I thought was supposed to be stronger than the steel itself. Any advice is appreciated.
Here are the broken pic's.
And here is the re-weld.
This is what it's supposed to look like.
