If it is a sandwich (and you are in NC) slaw goes on the sandwich.

So if I'm having a BBQ sandwich... hushpuppies.
If I'm just eating BBQ (non-sandwich)... slaw.

But then... it has to be Lexington style bbq slaw.

actually, I always consider slaw to be part of the sandwich. don't know why people use the word cole. Slaw is automatic. No way I can pick a side...hush puppies, hash, gravy and rice, corn sticks, mac and cheese,
etc...just can't do it.
