The Sick Room

The friendliest place on the web for anyone that enjoys cooking.

DH had the Mediport for the chemo installed Friday. Yeesh, that was a long day. We had to be at the hospital at 7:30 am and didn't leave until 2 pm. Apparently the patient ahead of him experienced complications during their procedure, so DH's was delayed for almost two hours. We were both exhausted yesterday.

Then at about 4:30 pm, on Friday, he received a call from the oncologist's office. His first treatment is scheduled for Monday, the day after tomorrow. He's in pain, is frequently nauseous, and isn't eating much. I really hope this helps him feel better.

I've been running around the house, full of nervous energy, cleaning, purging, rearranging. I guess I'm nesting, to create a comfortable place for him to rest and recover after the treatment.

I really appreciate having this place, where I've known so many of you for so long, to talk about this. Let me know if it too depressing to hear about. Love you 🥰
This forum was such a comfort and help to me when I went through what you are going through. It is life, it is not depressing. We want to know how you and your DH are doing. We are all in this together.

I'm seeing a specialist doctor at the end of February to do some checkups to see whether I have long Covid or something else is causing the prolonged fever. The other candidate they are thinking of is systemic Lupus, as I already have a form of Lupus (Lupus anticoagulans). I am not sure either of them would be good news, but getting some answers would be great. If it's systemic Lupus, that would override my Crohns & other diagnosis as Lupus can manifest anywhere in the body. It would explain a lot, though.

Ditto. I lost my husband to liver cancer (metastasized from colorectal cancer) in 2018, which is when I joined this forum. Everyone was so kind and supportive, which is why I'm still here to this day.

Hugs to you, GG. Feel free to PM me anytime if you need/want to. I understand what you're going through.

I remember that. Wow, the same diagnosis 😢

Thanks so much everyone. DH's first chemo treatment was postponed to next Monday because the insurance company didn't authorize it. It was pretty upsetting for us both. We'll have to prepare all over again.

I'm thinking about starting a CaringBridge account to keep our families updated. I've been reluctant to do it, though. I don't know why.

I've never heard of CaringBridge, so thank you for the link, GG. When my DH was going thru his treatments and surgeries, I had a list of folks that were praying and that wished to be kept informed. I used the list to email everyone, but all as bcc's. That way, they could respond to me without the risk of including everyone on the list. It worked for us. Most of them responded with words of encouragement or questions.

We had a number of Prayer Chain groups keeping Mikey in their prayers. We do believe that it made all the difference.

I'm sorry to hear it! Sending lots of love both your ways  it's awful when you have to mentally prepare for such a thing and it then doesn't come to pass. I hope next time will be going smoothly.

Not sure this is the correct place for this post...so mods, feel free to move it, if needed.

I have the noon news on while working in the kitchen. I took notice of a very sad report...apparently there are a number of crooks taking advantage of folks in hospitals and hospital waiting room. Purses are being stolen, when one if distracted...as one might be! Just posting for our awareness. If it is happening here, I'm betting it is happening in other cities too.

When Himself's cousin was battling glioblastoma, one of the family members started a CaringBridge account. It was wonderful way of keeping up with their challenging situation without peppering them with endless questions.

I got two texts yesterday asking me how his first treatment went. I went ahead and set it up after that. I do think it will be helpful.
