Huh. I put pot holders on the lids when I start cooking and just leave them there.

I actually did that once or twice, but two things happened (different times!).. one slid off and caught fire - another became wet steamed hot somehow. don't remember how now, either the lid was crooked or it was over a vent, at any rate scalded my fingers. (couldn't throw it as toddlers were around me)
