DW (also known as Mav'sWife AKA Serena) officially became an US Citizen as of yesterday. We went downtown to the Federal Building where her and about 100 others repeated the oath, listened to a speech by the judge, and recited the Pledge of Allegiance together.
I thought the judge was very appropriate, as he explained in his speech that he himself had once sat in that very courtroom, recited the same oath, and received the same Certificate of Citizenship. He is now a Federal Judge, I thought that was a pretty cool thing.
Afterwards we went to Chili's and pigged out. We didn't mean to pig out, we had just forgotten how huge their portions were. We had the white chocolate lava cake for desert, yum!
This is a picture of the Immigration Officer handing her the Certificate, and then of her next to the flag.
It was pretty interesting to watch how they did it. The Immigration Officer makes a motion to the judge stating that they have extensively interviewed all the applicants and have found them to be of good moral fiber, having met all requirements, and asks that he Naturalizes them. He then agrees to the motion, makes his speech, recites the oath with them, then has one of them lead everyone in the Pledge of Allegiance. At that point he is done, and the Immigration Officer hands out the Certificates in order.

Congrats to her! My sister got hers recently too. We are Canadian, but she married an American and lives there now.

congrats Mav and Mavs wife!
but, I'm sure I missed it somewhere, where is she from?
I'm nosey. sorry.

I'm nosey. sorry.

She was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada; her mom and step dad moved to Chicago when she was still very young and although her step dad (Egyptian with Canadian Citizenship) became a US citizen a long time ago her mom stayed a British Subject and Canadian Citizen and never got DW her citizenship either.

EDIT: I meant to say her step dad was Egyptian with Canadian Citizenship. Her biological dad, whom she did not meet until she was 24, was Hungarian and did not immigrate to the US.

Thanks everyone! Next rain day when DW gets to take a breath from her work I will let her know I posted this, LOL.

Congratulations Serena, you should be so proud of yourself..
kadesma:)

sorry, no break for you mav, I'm gonna have her come up here and plant my goofy mostly shade piece of prairie. :)
then I will wake up.....

Can you settle for her sending you a long list of shade prairie plants? LOL. Good luck getting a lot of color in there though, cause while you can get lots of different shades of plants in there, hard to get the bright colors unless you do some pots.
But if you really want her to send you a list of good plants for shade, just let me know and I will let her know, she keeps one for her clients on her computer.
