Why does every soap have to smell? Isn't clean enough?
We recently bought a washer which came with Tide coupons and a sample of Tide pod laundry detergent. Gosh, that stuff smells! We could smell it while the laundry washed, the laundry still smelled strong after drying, and the odor spread to the next room.
The washer is great, but the Tide pods are definitely on our "never buy" list.

I buy Arm & Hammer Free and Clear laundry detergent. It has no colors or scents added. It is WAY cheaper than Tide, and doesn't cause me allergy problems.

I spent most of the day trying to file my income tax return, and pay my #@&%^# taxes. Apparently, the Government has so much money, that they don't need any of mine, because they keep rejecting my eFile return. So, I get to go back in time and mail my 27-page printed tax return to the IRS, and go to the bank and get a check printed so the IRS will be so kind as to accept my #@&%^# payment.

BTW, I did my Taxes using Turbo Tax. Wow, is that a POS bit of software. It took me half a day to do what I should have been able to do in less than an hour.

I had to do this last year, too. Grrrrrrr!!!

@caseydog I did our taxes the other day. Started up a new laptop win 11 so it would accept Turbotax. Loaded turbo tax. Filled in all the forms we needed. We didn't have one form, I downloaded that from the net. Entered that. Efiled the federal, printed the state, signed/1099's, filled out the envelope, and done, 12 hours. It shouldn't take 12 hours but I'm glad it is done. Removed passwords from the new laptop, closed it and shut it down, unplugged, until maybe next year.
One whole day shot to.....heck. ;) It's never fun!
When they rejected your return, did they give you a reason?

Sounds like your returns are more complex than mine.
I use Turbo-Tax online and it provides all the forms I need. I don't even know what forms are completed until I look at the finished returns.

TurboTax made some suggestions, but they didn't work. Everything went through TurboTax, so have no idea whether the blame goes to the IRS or to TurboTax. I'm leaning toward TurboTax being at fault.

Just the process of downloading an installing TurboTax was a beating. They are so determined that we customers are all thieves trying to use their software without paying for it, that the authentication process is way too many steps, and if something goes wrong, they shut you out won't let you back in.

That happened last year. I installed TurboTax on my older Mac, and found that my version of the Mac operating system on that Mac was not compatible with TurboTax, anymore. So, I tried to move to a newer Mac, and Intuit went all medieval on me about putting their software on more than one computer.

What they really want if for you to do your taxes on their "cloud-based" software. That way they will have all of your financial and tax data on their cloud servers, to use for marketing, or hold hostage if you EVER decide not to use TurboTax in the Future.

Anyway, I did get to go to the bank and get a check, and to the post office with a priority mail envelope with my return and check (with a tracking number and a receipt proving I sent it).

I have to use a Business version of TurboTax. It costs a lot more money, but it has a small number of forms that I must have to complete my taxes.

@caseydog they do have a difficult procedure to get the turbo tax started, too much! I was annoyed with it. My laptop is 12 years old and works fine for me but it's win7, so I bought a win11 laptop just so I could run the software, which stinks!
I also don't want mine in the cloud. I have nothing in any cloud and I have a bunch of external drives, huge usb drives. I don't want my information available for the next security breach.

I use Louis. Have for about 20 years or so.
Even since I've moved.. all done via emails. I probably pay more than I should a very simple return. Actually here it can all be done on government forms available on line. If you make a mistake they just correct it.. and poof .. done

In many European countries, they send you your completed returns. Then you look them over and add any info they didn't already have. But, most people don't have business income or a lot of deductions for things the government doesn't already have on file. Those people can basically just skip doing income tax. I don't remember if they have to sign and return something or if not contesting the way the government did is considered agreeing.

I find it annoying that we have to fill in the info from printed W-something forms in the US, "T-slips in Canada, and RL-slips in Quebec. The government already has copies of that info.

This is a Petty Vent that became huge.
2 years ago (this coming June) I bought a new laptop. I havr had nothing but heartaches with it. Spent hours and hours watching a tech guy squiggle all over the place with my curser. Nothing ever really permanently fixed.
Thursday my screen did its usual flickering then turned a deep purple where I could barely see the curser...
ENOUGH!!!
Went into Staples and said make a backup and sell me a new computer.
I'm in there so much they all call out 'Hi Grandma' when they see me.
Daniel was serving me that day and said - You bought the insurance, right. I said yup, I even know all the tech guys in India and Columbia by name. So he looks up the old insurance contract and....

I (hopefully) will be getting a credit for the full amount of the computer.

Because of my career path, I've used Macs since the 1980s. It's what people in my profession use.

It was GREAT, until Steve Jobs died and Steve Cook become CEO. Now, it seems his corporate mandate is to make Apple products obsolete in five years. Gen-Zers seems be fine with that. They wait in line to spend a thousand bucks for a new smart phone every time a new one comes out.

But, that is the new high-tech business model, it seems. Make them buy something new by making their device not work anymore with the new software. Make it a high-tech paperweight.

I had a guy at the Apple Genius Bar tell me a few years ago that my Mac was 6 years old, so I shouldn't expect it to still work with "modern" software. I told him my 11 year old MINI CooperS with 184,000 miles still works -- starts every morning and get's me anywhere I need to go.

My MacBook is an early 2015 model and still works great (original battery for now). Granted I don't demand as much from it as you do as a pro photographer, but it still works like new. The only real obsolescence issue is that I cannot upgrade to the latest operating system because the architecture in the newer models is different.

The problem I run into is that I upgrade my applications, and they require the newest operating system, and like you, I find that my older Mac can't run the newest operating system. So, I have to buy a new Mac to run my business. Like you mentioned, I need to run the latest versions of applications, especially Adobe creative software. I don't even like the newest versions of Adobe Photoshop and the other associated applications, but I have to use it, because my customers do.
