Frankly, I don't think you'll find a decent blender that's quiet.
Hi, Andy. Well, I'm not really expecting "quiet." I'm just seeking something that isn't ear-splittingly loud. IOW, I don't want to have to get out ear plugs every time I use the thing.
The older Oster model that I currently have is not quiet, but I can use it on the lowest speed for a few seconds without the noise hurting my ears. OTOH, my Cuisinart mini-chopper is loud enough that I usually use earmuffs when operating it. I also have an old Vita-Mix that is EXTREMELY loud, and it's best to use actual ear plugs when running that one.

No, my main use is to make thickened liquids daily for an elderly relative, so I don't need anything all that substantial.If you're going to be making smoothies etc. every day, you might be better off with a more substantial tool.
