I didn't enjoy his piano playing much but as a composer, arranger, etc, he was superb. I certainly hate for us to lose people with such talent especially when we don't seem to have much left doing good music.

He is sure to be missed. Very shocking, as he was said to be in good health before a "brief illness". A "brief illness" doesn't sound like a stroke or a coronary which would be described as a "sudden death". The most I could find was that he recently sprained his back. I suppose there will be an autopsy, but in any event, he will be long remembered as one of the greatest musical talents of our time.

RIP Mr. Hamlisch ........ so much great music, what a legacy. I fondly remember walking home from school listening to Sunshine, Lollipops and Rainbows on my transistor radio, and there were so many more wonderful scores to follow. He will be missed.
