I bought a bag of Mrs. Wages pickling lime at walmart the other day. Has anyone ever used this stuff? Can I use it to prevent my fermented pickles from getting soft and mushy? How do you use tis stuff? Also since I ferment my pickles and not infuse them, I don't can them I just put them in the fridge after they ferment for a while. Can I still use this stuff even if I don't can?

I don't use the stuff and its considered an out-dated canning product even though it is still being sold. You should not use it unless a recipe specifically calls for it and then make sure everything is properly rinsed.

It's easier today to use grape leaves for fermented containers and Calcium Chloride (Pickle Crisp) for canning jars.
