Can't reply to older threads?

twice to today I tried to reply to a thread that said i cant because its too many days old

You should still be able to reply if you click on the check box at the end of the old thread statement.

I've done it before. I usually get a warning message that it's an old thread and do I want to post anyway. Just answer yes and it goes through.
